Dave Jones Leaves Cardiff City

July 1st 2007:

Cardiff City have announced that they have parted company with manager Dave Jones by mutual consent.

Chairman Peter Risdale said “Today I am sad to announce that Dave Jones and Cardiff City football club will go their separate ways. I would like to thank Mr. Jones for all his efforts and for laying down solid foundations for the future of the club”.

The reasons for Jones’ sudden departure are yet to be revealed, although it is rumoured to be due to the lack of transfer funds available to him following the sale of star striker Michael Chopra to Sunderland.

Dave Jones took over the club in 2005 and over saw a mass rebuilding campaign which included the sale of star players such Danny Gabbiddon, James Collins and Peter Thorne. Following a superb start to last season’s campaign, the Bluebirds sufferd a slump in form and finished the season in a disappointing 13th place.

Paul Jewell, who recently resigned from his post at Wigan is the favourite to be approached for the job, Colchester manager and lifelong Cardiff fan Geraint Williams is also amongst the favourites.
