League Cup Round 2:
Cardiff City secured their place in the third round of the League Cup with an extra time winner by on loan defender Jonathan Evans.
Cardiff opted to start the game with a 4-4-2 formation after they had used a 4-5-1 system in the last two league matches.
The Bluebirds took the lead with 26 minutes gone via a well taken Robbie Fowler penalty. The lead could have been extended with both MaClean and Collins failing to convert great chances.
After the half time whistle Barnsley began to attack the home side more and were rewarded when Kim Christensen fired past Kasper Schmeichel from the edge of the area to level the score.
With less than 10 minutes remaining Barnsley were reduced to 10 men after Paul Ried was sent off for a second yellow card for a foul on Joe Ledley.
In extra time Jonathan Evans sealed the win and a place in the next round of the competition with a fine header from McPhail’s corner.
It was a result that the home side deserved and they will now face Premiership Reading in the next round.
